![]() SUSAN GRAHAM RETURNS TO "THE MARTHA STEWART SHOW" THIS FRIDAY, MAY 8, MAKING HER SECOND APPEARANCE THIS SEASON Graham Performs Premiere of Ned Rorem's Newly-Orchestrated Songs for Susan - Featuring Three Brand New Songs - at Carnegie Hall with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra on May 11 Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Susan Graham will appear on tomorrow's "Martha Stewart Show", stopping by the program for the second time this season for a special Mother's Day episode. The opera diva joins the domestic diva to help bake a cake, share experiences about the life of an opera singer, and talk about her upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall. Graham and Stewart have formed a great friendship, with Graham becoming a regular visitor to the show while Stewart frequently attends concerts and Metropolitan Opera performances - the two even swapped drink recipes during the intermission of the Met Opera's Live in HD broadcast of the opening night of the Met's 125th anniversary season. This latest appearance on "The Martha Stewart Show" comes as Susan Graham joins the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra for a series of concerts culminating at Carnegie Hall on May 11, where she will sing world premieres of three brand new Ned Rorem songs as well as premiering eight newly-orchestrated arrangements - which Rorem has collectively titled 11 Songs for Susan. Graham's recording Songs by Ned Rorem, featuring Malcolm Martineau at the piano, was issued by Erato in 2000, when it was abundantly praised by numerous critics and nominated for a Gramophone Award for "Best Vocal Recording". Graham has called Rorem "the godfather of American song, with thoughtful melodies that go straight to the heart." She explains: "I'm thrilled that Orpheus has commissioned orchestrated versions so that we can revisit these jewels in a new way."
